Arthur couldn't help but sing as he made his way home. In truth, he not only wanted to sing, he wanted to dance too. He wanted to tell everyone. Every passer-by. Even the stray dog that had stopped to look at him, that he, Arthur Fleck, had kissed the most beautiful, most intelligent girl in the whole wide world. That she had kissed him back. That they had ignored the rain. Ignored the sounds of the city as they passed by and kissed. And it hadn't just been a friendly peck on the cheek. Oh no. This had been a real kiss. A kiss for the ages. A kiss that could compete with the greatest ever. A kiss that would put Anthony and Cleopatra, Romeo and Juliet, and even Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara to shame.

When they had finally moved apart, all Arthur could do was look into (Y/n)'s eyes. Finding himself lost in her exquisite orb. Lost in the taste of her mouth. The clown not able to believe that something as truly wonderful as (Y/n) could happen to him, of all people. Not able to believe that (Y/n) would have wanted to kiss him too. But she had. And it had been, Arthur was sure, the most glorious thing that had ever happened to him in his sorry life. Sure, that he had fallen in love with (Y/n), more deeply than he had already been for all those years.

After a few more moments of just standing there in one another's arms. Their noses brushing against the others, the terrible memory of his mother sitting and waiting back in the apartment, sprung to Arthur's mind. The usually quiet and nervous man, slowly and reluctantly pulling away. Offering (Y/n) his arm so that he could escort her the rest of the way back to her hotel. Arthur finding himself kissing (Y/n) again, as he had left her at her door. As he promised that he would come and pick her up in the morning, after she had been to the cemetery where her mother had been laid to rest.

And now, now as he wound his way along the damp streets, Arthur felt like a king. He felt invincible. And he knew that it was all because of the girl that he had walked home. Pushing his way into the apartment building, Arthur didn't even bother looking in the mailbox. There was never anything, well, not anything that his mother was hoping for anyway. And he would just tell her when she asked, as he usually would, that there was nothing. Deciding to take the stairs instead of the old elevator, Arthur found himself bounding up the steps, two, three at a time. The door to his apartment appearing much quicker than it seemed to do normally.

"Happy!?" His mother called out, as Arthur shut the door behind him.

"No mom, no mail." Arthur replied, as he took off his jacket.

"Where have you been?" The old woman enquired, as Arthur helped his mother up, and took her to the bedroom.

"I er............I had to work late. Now, lets get you to bed, and I will bring you some soup. Then we can watch Murray together." Arthur told her. Assisting Penny to change and then pulling back the sheets on the bed. Moving his mother under the linen, before leaving her and making his way to the kitchen.

                                                         >>--------------------------------<<

Arthur was relieved when he looked over, to see his mother was fast asleep. As quietly and as carefully as he could, he moved from the side of the bed. Placing a little kiss to his mother's forehead, before he switched off the TV, and made his way to the bathroom. He didn't want to wash. He didn't want to lose the smell of (Y/n) from his clothes. From his body. But he knew that tomorrow he would see her again. That he would get her smell, anew. And he knew that he wanted to look at his best when he picked her up the next day.

As he made his way back to the lounge room. His hair still damp for from his bath. Arthur couldn't help but look at the time. He knew that it was getting late. That (Y/n) may even be asleep. But he felt the need to hear her voice one last time before he settled down onto the lumpy old sofa. And she had told him that he could call anytime he wanted. That all he had to do was ring the hotel and ask for her room number. That the front desk would patch him straight through to her. And so, he did.

"Hello, this is Utopia Hotel. How may I help you?" A voice asked from the other end of the line. Arthur finding it highly hilarious that a hotel in Gotham would call itself "Utopia" of all things. Gotham being the furthest thing from a perfect place that you could possibly find.

"Er.......hi........yeah. Could you put me through to room 307 please?" Arthur enquired. His brows furrowing slightly, as the line seemed to go quiet.

"Of course, Sir. Just one moment." The voice finally replied. Arthur letting out a relieved sigh, as he waited to hear (Y/n)'s voice. Nervously twiddling with the phone cord, as he hoped that he hadn't got her out of bed.

"Hello?" Arthur's heart beginning to race as he heard (Y/n)'s greeting.

"H-h-hello, (Y/n)? It.........its Arthur. I er, I hope that I didn't wake you?"

"Oh, hi Arthur. No, no, you didn't wake me. I was just reading over a few notes. Is........is everything alright? You still want to see me tomorrow, don't you?" (Y/n) replied. Arthur feeling as though everything was alright with the world, now that he had heard her voice again.

"Yeah, everything is fine, (Y/n). I was just thinking about you when I was having a bath.............."

"You were thinking about me when you were having a bath, huh? Well, this conversation just got a whole lot more interesting. What exactly were you doing when you were thinking about me?" (Y/n) chuckled. Arthur feeling himself begin to glow bright red, as he realised what she was suggesting.

"No......I mean.......I wasn't........I didn't........not that I wouldn't..........." Arthur spluttered out in reply. Just thankful that (Y/n) wasn't there to see the shade of scarlet that he had become.

"I know, Arthur. I was only joking. Now, why don't you tell me what you were thinking........?"

"Oh, yeah. Well, I was just thinking that I would like to hear your voice one more time before I tried to sleep. Not that I'm very good at sleeping, but........"

"Arthur. I swear that you are the sweetest man in the whole world. Now, what do you want to talk about? I have all night." (Y/n) told him, as Arthur pulled up a stool, and opened the conversation with one of his best jokes.
