Arthur almost skipped into work. He didn't mind that he hadn't slept. He didn't mind that he had only had chance to pop into his apartment to quickly get changed, before he had had to leave straight away so that he could make it into work on time.

He and (Y/n) had sat talking until the sun had begun to rise, the two only parting when (Y/n) explained that she should leave before she was seen by others. Arthur waving a sad goodbye as he watched her leave, the flash of her tail the last thing he saw as she disappeared back into the depths of Gotham River.

Arthur couldn't help but feel giddy as he pushed his way into the locker room, ignoring the stares of the others as he danced over to his locker. He and (Y/n) had arranged that they would meet again at midnight that night, now he just had to find her some clothes that would not only suit a mermaid, but would also fit, a task which in itself seen strangely daunting, especially given the fact that it was hard to judge what (Y/n)'s possible legs could look like when all he had ever seen was a long, powerful, yet graceful tail.

"Well, someone is happy this morning." Gary chuckled, as Arthur flopped into the chair in front of his mirror, his smile getting even broader as he let out a happy sigh, his mind still filled with the thoughts of his beautiful mermaid, and the possibilities of what could be.

"And why are you so full of the joys of spring this morning? You've been shuffling around here like the grim reaper has been sitting on your shoulder for weeks now, what's happened over night to make you perk up?" Gary asked, Arthur humming as he absentmindedly dipped his brush in his make up pots, obviously not having heard a single word that his friend had said.

"I know what it is." Gary declared, a knowing look on his face, and an intrigued twinkle in his eyes, as Arthur spun around to look at him.

"There is only one thing that I have ever come across that can cause such a change in a man. Only one thing that can make a seemingly normal man turn into a giddy little schoolboy. You got yourself girl." Gary said quietly, not wanting the others to overhear the conversation, or see the fact that Arthur had begun to glow a bright red.

"Well, its about time pal. Come on then, spill the beans. Who is the girl that has been able to turn ya head?" Gary asked happily, as he pulled up a chair so that he could sit next to Arthur.

"Er.........well. She......she's called (Y/n)." Arthur began, trying to think of a way that he could tell Gary about (Y/n) without telling him the full truth. Deciding that even if he did tell him that (Y/n) was a mermaid, that he would never believe him anyway.

"Is that it? Come on Arthur, ya got to tell me more than that. I mean like......where did ya meet. What does she do? What does she look like? And more importantly, when do I get to meet her? Gary enquired, more than curious to know about the love in Arthur's life.

"We......we met when I went for a walk by the river. She was there too, and we just sort of got talking. She sort of helps with things in the ocean. And I think that no words in any language would be good enough to describe how beautiful she really is." Arthur told his friend dreamily, feeling that he wasn't exactly lying, just taking artistic license with the truth.

"And, and I'm not quite sure when you'll meet her. Maybe when she feels comfortable." Arthur tried to explain, not even sure that (Y/n) could do as she promised and would miraculously sprout legs instead of a tail.

"Well, it's good to know that you've finally found yourself someone." Gary said, as he jumped from his chair, the little man's feet landing with a thump as they hit the floor.

"I could........I could do with your help though." Arthur called out, Gary turning back to look at his nervous looking friend.

"I need to find (Y/n) some clothes. Its hard to explain why, but I just need to find her some by tonight, and I am not sure what to get. I don't have much experience with women's clothes, and I don't have any spare cash." Arthur confessed, doing his best to avoid the confused, questioning look from Gary.

"Er, well...........I must admit that I don't really have much to do with women's clothes either, but if your girl needs them urgently, and isn't that fussy, I think that there might be some old things in one of the baskets out the back. They aren't the best, but they are better than nothing." Gary replied, now beyond intrigued about Arthur's new girl, and why she didn't already have clothes of her own.

Before Gary could enquire further, Arthur jumped to his feet and ran towards the back, enthusiastically pulling items out from the baskets that had sat in the back room for some time, the old garments going unnoticed by most until they need some for scrap, or for bright patches for their clown costumes.

Gary couldn't help but laugh as he watched items of clothing being thrown around, the whole scene reminding the little man of a dog digging a hole in the garden, soil flying out behind the hound as it had a wonderful time.

"Well? You found anything?" Gary asked, frowning slightly as Arthur pulled out somethings that looked as though they were a throwback to over a decade before.

"Unless your girl is going to a fancy dress party, I wouldn't recommend those." Gary told Arthur, shaking his head as he made his way over to his friend, and began to look through the piles of haphazardly strewn clothes.

"Ah, here we are. Its not perfect, but it's a nice enough dress." Gary called out, throwing the light piece of material over to Arthur, the larger man's eyes growing wide as he imagined the beautiful body of his mermaid wrapped in the thin cloth.

"Yeah, that.......... that's good. She'll like that." Arthur said enthusiastically, forgetting himself as he rushed back to his mirror and pushed the dress into a small bag that also contained a thin towel that he had grabbed that morning from his apartment. Arthur wasn't sure whether he would be able to get back to his place before he made his way to meet up with (Y/n), so he wanted to be prepared.

Since meeting (Y/n), Arthur's world had been turned upside down in the best of ways, with his head constantly in the clouds, his heart in his throat, and his stomach in his feet, and it only got worse whenever he thought about her. If he told anyone how he felt they would surely say that he had it bad, and he knew that he did. Now all he could hope was that (Y/n) felt the same way, and that she would be able to look past his dingy apartment, his difficult life, and all his conditions, and see the man beneath. But that would have to wait for later.
