"fuck im hungry. that chicken was... something," you chuckled to luke as the two of you step out of the venue. you were at a wedding for a friend, asking the blonde to be your date for the night.

"yeah, it wasn't that good." he chuckled. "wanna get something to eat? my treat."

"please."

the two of you got in the car, you kicking off your cheap heels, throwing them at him to catch. luke put on the radio.

"wanna goto whataburger?" he asked, licking his lips and throwing his jacket in the back seat.

"yeah, that sounds really good actually." you smiled, looking over at him before shoving your key to start the ignition. luke messed with the radio station for a bit till he found a station that fit the mood you could say which was old 80s music.

the two of you drove through the dark streets of el paso, texas, luke rolling the window down on your old junky car looking out at the deserted city.

"remember when we would sneak out and ride our bikes in the neighborhood at night?" luke chuckled to himself.

"yup, and i'd always be the one in trouble getting grounded." you pouted, looking over at him for a second before back at the road.

"not my fault your mum & dad were so strict." the blonde boy snickered earning a slap on his arm from you. smiling, you just shook your head in disappointment. the two of you now have entered adulthood, luke building his career to pursue being a music teacher or songwriter of a sort while you were working on on becoming journalist.

pulling up to the whataburger, the two of you hopped out, your heels in hand with your purse in the other. luke looked at you funny before headed inside.

"why carry your heels when you arent gonna even wear them to get inside?"

"because," you answered, thinking about an excuse. "it takes too long and im lazy."

"i would've given you piggy ride if you said something." he sighed, opening the door you to enter, barefoot and all.

"we're already here. too late." you grinned, pulling him inside with you.

"welcome to whataburger!"

when entered, you were greeted buy an angsty boy who had peaking red hair under his hat and few tattoos scattered along his arms that were lyrics from twenty one pilots. other than that, the fast food joint was empty inside.

"the usual?" luke asked.

"mhm." with that, you walked back to the corner booth, the one the two of you have been sitting at since who knows when. ever since that place has existed, that was your spot and no one in highschool would take it because they knew it had your and luke's name written all over it. metaphorically and physically.

from your seat, you watched the tall blonde boy (more like man) order for the two of you. when you watched him, you couldn't help but feel your heart flutter a little. luke has always been cute to you, ever since the day he moved in on your block you had thought he was cute. now that he was older, he was freaking hot.

broad shoulders, curly golden hair, the prettiest blue eyes and a jawline to die for, luke was the full package. however, you never really knew if luke looked at you in the way you looked at him. of course luke had been your first kiss in middle school but after that, nothing happened. he had dated a few girls in high school but nothing serious.

the next thing you knew, luke was sliding onto your side of the booth handing you your big iced tea. he threw an around you, checking his phone for messages and other notifications he missed while at the wedding. you couldn't help but snuggle into his side, smelling some expensive cologne he had boughten a while back you didn't remember the name of.

"what did you get?" you asked.

"the same thing we get every time we go. when have i ever gotten anything different?" he chuckled.

you felt your cheeks heat up. he was right. you're so stupid. "oh" was all you could say, grabbing the big foam cup and taking a big gulp. luke put his phone down, looking over at you and looking over your face.

"what?"

"nothing," he shyly smiled. "your makeup looks really nice. i'm not used to seeing you like this i guess." luke shrugged. just as you were about the say something, the same boy that took your order brought your food, luke pulling his arm away from you to eat. a little sadness pinged inside you but it wasn't a big deal.

luke shoved some fries in his mouth, unwrapping his burger before stuffing that in his face.

"jesus luke," you sighed. "you're so... gross when you eat"

"im hungry!" he protested, food still in his mouth making you gag and turn away as you ate a fry too. for the most part, the two of you didn't talk, just eating till you were finished (well luke finished eating in max 5 minuets).

he threw his arm around you on the booth again, looking around the empty place before checking the time. "shit its late. y/n, are you sure you wanna go home by yourself? stay at my place, i dont want you out this late."

"didn't we just talk about us going out late as kids? ill be fine." you say, shrugging before sipping from your drink.

"yeah but theres crazy fuckin' people now. you're staying with me, i'll even drive." he looked over at you, his eyes looking extra blue tonight, even under these crappy lights. "i dont want you to get hurt." luke said softer, sneezing you into his side making you smile a little.

"thanks." you said quietly, looking away at the leftover fries you had. with that, luke stepped out of the booth, taking both your trash before looking at you.

"get on my back, i'll carry you to the car." he chuckled.

"are you serious?"

"yeah, c'mon hurry up." he waved for you to come, bending his legs so you climb on. so you did, luke grabbing your calves, your head really closer to the ceiling, you left on lukes back, both of you laughing your heads off.

the drive to lukes apartment was silent other than for the radio along with the quiet streets. when you made it to lukes apartment, his roommate ashton was already in bed so you had to enter quietly into lukes room.

while he was kicking off his shoes and take off his tie, you sat there awkwardly since you didn't have anything to wear to sleep. luke finally took notice when he looked over at you, running to his drawer and pulling out a t-shirt he kept from cross country & gym shorts he had accidentally shrunk but held on.

"hopefully those shorts fit, if not, let me know. ash might have something from kaykay." he grinned as you walked out the room to the bathroom. thankfully, everything fit so it was all good. you washed off the makeup and pulled out your false lashes, leaving your face bare of anything.

when luke saw you walk in, he felt he had a flashback to gym class in high school. her hair was tied up in a pony tail, her skin free of any makeup because she saw it as 'stupid for girls feelings they can only get a guy if they wear a makeup.' she plopped on the bed beside him, shooting him a small smile before going on her phone, tapping away. he took the minuet he had to examine her some more before looking away till she could notice.

luke bit down on his lip nervously, contemplating what was running through his mind. "fuck it," he mumbled, his hand coming up to hold your cheek as he connected your lips.

you froze against him, still not processing what was happening. luke instantly felt regret fall at the pit of his stomach. he fucked up.

"y/n, i-i'm sorry, i just... i just thought-"

you grabbed his face this time, kissing luke, the boy melting against your touch, reaching to hold your waist. his lips were ungodly soft that it kinda scared you bur nonetheless, you couldn't help but smile against him.

after the kiss, the two of you looked at each other before you said, "well, goodnight lu." you climbed under his blankets and turned on your side leaving the boy thunderstruck.

"wait, y/n!"
