No one's POV

Damon, Ariana, and Stefan were cooking.

"I just don't know why you want to bring chili to a potluck. Everybody brings chili." Damon spoke to Ariana.

Alaric entered.

"Hey, Ric." Stefan greeted him.

"What's up?" Alaric muttered.

"What time do you want to go to the Lockwood party?" Ariana asked.

"Ah. Those founders parties aren't really my thing." Alaric responded.

"Show up." Damon shrugged. "There's going to be nine other people that brought chili."

"It's an old family recipe, okay?" Ariana rolled her eyes.

"Yeah! I know. I knew your old family. They made sucky chili." Damon complained, moving around the kitchen counter to help Ariana with it. He looked at her and smiled, nudging her playfully. Ariana laughed with a smile and nudged him back.

"Why are you two here, exactly?" Alaric asked both Damon and Stefan.

"She knows." Stefan gestured to Ariana.

"They think I'm going to break. I'm not going to break!" Ariana sighed.

"She's in denial." Damon told Alaric. Ariana sent him a look before she huffed.

"I'm not in denial."

---

Someone suddenly rang the doorbell. Ariana opened the door. It was Caroline. She was holding a bowl of food in her hands.

"I come bearing gifts!"

"Please say that's not chili..." Ariana groaned. Caroline just grinned and stepped aside, revealing Bonnie. Ariana smiled. "Bonnie!"

"I'm back!" Bonnie squealed, hugging Ariana. "I leave town for the summer and everything goes to hell for the both of you."

---

Caroline, Ariana, and Bonnie were in the kitchen.

"The problem with my dad's normal side of the family is normal made for a really boring summer." Bonnie spoke.

"After the last few days, I would kill for a normal family." Caroline joked. She helped Ariana decant the Chili in a casserole. "Since when did you learn how to cook?"

"Damon helped a little." Ariana shrugged.

"Damon's helping you cook now?" Bonnie scoffed in disbelief.

"Both of you stop judging." Ariana sighed. "He's just trying to be a good-- ow!"

"Did I splash you?" Caroline muttered guilty, moving away.

"No, no, my necklace." Ariana pulled the locket part of her necklace off of her skin. Her skin had a burn mark where the pendant touched her. "It burned me." She removed her necklace and held it by the chain.

"Let me see it." Bonnie offered. Ariana held it out while Bonnie looked at the pendant.

Bonnie touched the necklace. But, suddenly, there was a zap, and sparks flew out of it. Startled, Ariana dropped the necklace.

---

The lawns of the mansion were filled with people sitting at tables at the party. Ariana and Caroline were sitting apart from the party on a bench. Bonnie joined them with her grimoire.
