A vampire tripped Matt, and Matt fell to the ground. The vampire stared at Matt hungrily and dragged Matt closer to him by his feet. Matt screamed and struggled. The vampire was about to bite Matt, but Elena snapped the vampire's neck and threw him backwards.

"Are you okay?" Elena helped Matt up, and Jeremy was running towards him. Ariana looked at Matt's blood covered neck.

"Oh my god..."

"Get to the house! Hurry!" Jeremy exclaimed. The four ran to the house and made it in.

"Jeremy, what's going on?" Ariana asked.

"They're coming." Jeremy informed. Ariana looked back and saw a group of at least six vampires arrive. Elena closed the door.

It was the following morning. Jeremy was placing a gun down while Elena was cleaning Matt's neck wound and Ariana was pacing around the room, stressed.

"Sun's up. They're long gone." Jeremy spoke. Damon then entered.

"What the hell were you thinking?" Ariana stormed up to her boyfriend. "All we asked you to do was to teach him how to fight."

"He's not the best student in the world." Damon admitted.

"Wait. Now this is my fault?" Jeremy scoffed in disbelief.

"Stop talking." Damon rolled her eyes at the littlest Gilbert before turning back to his girlfriend. "Look, I know you're angry, but my way was the easiest, fastest, and safest way to complete his mark to get you the cure."

"This isn't about me! This is about you, and what kind of things you are making Jeremy do!" Ariana stated. "He killed someone. These were innocent people."

"The mark grew, didn't it?" Damon shrugged.

"Okay. Look. We need a plan." Elena piped up.

"You're right..." Ariana sighed. "There's a group of compelled vampires out there, and as soon as the sun goes down, they're gonna come after Matt, so we have to find a way to protect him."

"Yes, I know." Damon then walked over to Jeremy and put his arm around his shoulder. "But there will be no problem when big Jer and I here go on a hunting expedition." But Ariana didn't look on board with the plan. "Baby, I know, it's tragic. I get it. But we also agreed that he had to kill them. Now, we have added incentive. So, you take the least most valuable player home; Jeremy and I will finish this."

"I'm sorry? Are you saying we should leave him here with you?" Elena questioned in disbelief.

"Was I talking to you? No, I didn't think so." Damon snapped at her, before turning back to Ariana. "Trust me. I will keep him safe. Okay?" But Ariana still looked wary. Damon cupped her face gently in his hands. "Hey... do you trust me?"

"You know I do..." Ariana muttered. Damon smiled before gently pecking her lips as a thank you.

While Elena was downstairs with Matt, Ariana was upstairs in her room, when her phone rang. After seeing that it was Jeremy, she answered the call.

"Jeremy?"

"Ari, we're in trouble."

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, slow down. Where's Damon?"

"Listen to me. Kol attacked us. I barely got away, but he has Damon."
