Chapter 13: The Lies Will Catch Up To You

Skylar sat on the floor of her bedroom in the Salvatore house, thankful that no one was home (especially not Stefan), surrounded by candles.

"Enzo... Enzo, please hear me." Skylar pleaded with closed eyes and open hands. "I don't have access to magic so you've gotta meet me halfway." No response. "Please... a sign... anything?" A small gust of wind passed by, causing Skylar's eyes to shoot open, until her phone began ringing. She let out a sigh, pulling her phone from the bed behind her, and she saw that it was Bonnie calling her. "Bon? Everything okay?"

"I was about to ask you the same question."

"You don't have to check up on me every five minutes, Bonnie. I'm fine, I promise."

"If I truly believed that, I'd be a terrible friend to you."

"Caroline believed it."

"She... she has Stefan to worry about."

"Okay then. Hey, listen, I need your help. My mom is staying here with me as my, like, personal bodyguard... basically standing outside my door to let me know if my dad or uncle Damon were home so that I can sneak out of my window and avoid them. But my mom seems a little distracted lately, probably with her feelings for Stefan that are still there, so I need to get out of the house. Have any ideas to keep me occupied for a while?"

"Funny you asked! I do have something. But remember, before you assume that I only called because I wanted something, I asked you if you were okay and you brought this into the conversa--"

"I know, Bonnie. It's fine. What is it?"

"Uh, have you made any progress getting Enzo out of hell?"

"What?"

"Cade got out, why shouldn't Enzo?"

"Cade used the Maxwell bell, which is kind of a non-starter now, unless you want to risk nuking Mystic Falls again. I'm not a witch anymore."

"But you're also not a quitter, Sky."

"I don't believe that. Just... please just tell me what I can help with."

"Um, I was just hoping you had a solve for Enzo, because I might need a solution for someone else, too."

"Someone else like...?"

"Well, let's just say I had a semi-ghost situation... someone halfway in our world, who really wanted to stay here for real. This is all hypothetical, Sky. But what if there was a way to unlink my life from Ariana's, and, what if the very small price to pay, was us freeing a soul from hell."

"It's crazy, because the only person who could break that link is the person who put it on you guys."

"That's the thing..."

"Oh my god. This isn't hypothetical, is it? Who put the link on you and Ariana?"

"A man named Kai Parker. He is like you... a Heretic."

"Not possible. I've done research into this, Bon! Me and my mom are literally the last two heretics in existence."

"Well, like I said, Kai isn't exactly 'in existence'. He came up from Hell."

"What?!"

"Just... can you please meet us?"

"Yes, of course. Where are you?"

"I'll text you details now. But there's one problem..."

"Which is?"

"Damon is here with us, Sky."

"......"

"I totally understand if you don't want to help us anymore."

"...no, it's fine... I'm on my way."

Apparently, Damon had the idea to introduce Kai to the world of redemption. He was going to bring Ariana back, to earn Damon's forgiveness, so he could stay on earth.

Skylar sat on her floor, surrounded by candles.

"Enzo... I'm here." She whined, sniffling away her tears. "I need you now more than ever, c'mon. Enzo, please. I know you're out there... if you can hear me, I need you."

"Hello, love." Enzo spoke up, causing Skylar's eyes to open. She cautiously looked over to her left, where Enzo stood in the doorway of the cabin. Skylar raced to her feet, meeting Enzo halfway in the cabin as they wrapped their arms around each other, embracing.

"Never leave me again!" Skylar demanded, burying her face into Enzo's shoulder.

"Believe me, I don't want to." Enzo assured. Skylar pulled away from the hug, shoving her lips against his. 

"It's really you..." She breathed with a smile, pressing her nose to his. "Are you really here?"

"It is really me, but I'm not really here." Enzo sadly shook his head, causing Skylar's smile to fade.

"Are you part of some psychic world Bonnie told me I created?"

"None of that matters now." Enzo acknowledged. "All that matters... is you." 

And they kissed again.

In that moment, nothing mattered. Everyone was just... absolutely perfect."

A/N: I am so so sorry, but if you couldn't tell already, I'm in a huge rush to get to the finale! I wouldn't be surprised if you just skipped right to the finale right now since nothing exciting will happen until I get to the finale plot twist! So, I don't find this chapter really relevant to go into detail about. Instead, here I am, summarizing the chapter so that it is easier and understandable:

Kai was able to return,  but only halfway, so he enlisted Damon, Skylar, Bonnie, and Alaric's help to bring him back fully in exchange for him waking up Ariana. Skylar found out that she had psychic powers and tried to contact Enzo. She did with Cade's help and learned that like when Cade left Hell, he had his own place. Skylar created a place where Enzo's spirit now resided. Kai took Damon to Ariana's casket where Kai stabbed Damon, telling him that he didn't believe in redemption, and escaped with Ariana (whom he was still infatuated with) while leaving Damon to desiccate.

Again, sorry for not being able to write as much as I'm sure a lot of you would've liked, but we're getting closer and closer to the finale so please stay tuned for that!!!
