Skylar sat in her room, occasionally taking nervous glances over at the door. Valerie had taken a break from guarding the door to go grab a blood bag or two, so if someone entered the room, Skylar would have no time to escape and avoid them.

As the the door started to slowly creak open, Skylar considered making a dash to the window, but hesitated for a split second when the person at the door was revealed to be a human Stefan Salvatore.

"Sweetie--"

"No. You can't call me that anymore." Skylar spat, standing up as she looked over to the open door. "What kind of father hurts their child in the ways that you have hurt me, dad? That is extremely bad parenting! There is nothing you can say."

"I understand." Stefan avowed sadly, realising that he was actually a bad father, and he hated himself for not being able to give Skylar the dad that she deserved to have. "But I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I didn't try."

"That's a shame." Skylar clenched her hands into fists, causing her nails to dig into her palms. "A good human skill is knowing when to shut up."

A normal father would've demanded that their child didn't speak to them that way, but this was Stefan. The human who had an extreme soft spot for his daughter and would never raise his voice at her... ever.

"I'm sorry." He apologized. "I'm so sorry--"

"You killed Enzo, dad." Skylar acknowledged, furrowing her eyebrows as her eyes watered. "You. Killed. Enzo."

"And I will spend the rest of my human life living with that guilt. Looking for ways to make up for my actions." Stefan addressed. Skylar's face remained dull. "I'm leaving town. I know it may not mean much to you, but I'm doing everything I can to atone. For everyone."

"You're leaving?" Skylar frowned. "Look, I know I'm really mad at you, dad, but you can't just leave me! At least... not now."

"I'll be back before you know it. It's not forever." Stefan reassured.

"You know what? Fine." Skylar snapped. "You want to completely give up? You do that, dad. I won't stop you." And just like that, she gently pushed Stefan out of her room and closed the door. Letting out a breath, she placed her forehead against the door.

"A bit harsh, love." Enzo announced, causing Skylar to spin around.

"I didn't know you were here." She avowed.

"Well, when you're in this state, it seems to be quite easy." Enzo responded, as Skylar took a step closer, wrapping her arms around his torso.

"He's earned it." She added, nestling her face into his neck for a second before she swiftly pulled back. "I hate him."

Enzo didn't reply. Instead, he simply sat down and pulled her into his lap, hugging her to him.

"Are you happy?"

"Right now? Yes. Perfectly." Skylar murmured in response.

"Then why not forgive your dad?"

"Do you really have to ask?"

"Stefan did horrible things, sure. He was a servant of the Devil. But I served Cade, too. I took so many lives. Even before that, death followed me around wherever I went. When my humanity was off, I was willing to let you die." Enzo stated.

"Your point?" Skylar sighed.

"You continue to love me and hold me here so I know you have the capacity to forgive." Enzo pointed out in a soft, quiet tone.
