No one's POV

Ariana was wide awake in her bed, her alarm went off. It was 5:15 a.m. She got up and went out of her room and saw Alaric walking slowly downstairs.

"Good morning." Ariana greeted. Alaric didn't answer; he seemed to have a hangover.

---

Ariana was training on one of Alaric's mannequins. He showed her how to stake a vampire with a sleeve and two stakes in it.

"So, the pressure of your punch ejects the stakes."

"Easy enough." Ariana sighed. With all of her strength, she flung her fist forward and it collided with the mannequin. A stake embedded itself into the mannequin and Ariana smiled proudly. "See? Easy."

"Impressive." Alaric chuckled. "Next." He walked over to his bag and pulled something out. "You know what this is?"

"A vervain grenade. I've used one before." Ariana said.

"Then you know the element of surprise is your only advantage when it comes to a vampire." Alaric pulled the pin out of a grenade and threw it in Ariana's hand. "Surprise."

"Oh my god!" Ariana gasped in shock before throwing it in the air. The grenade exploded. She glared at Alaric with frustration. "This isn't a joke to me, Ric!"

"You think I'm joking?" Alaric scoffed. "Vampires will take whatever they want. They will hurt whoever they want. And they'll do it without remorse. It's their nature. Look, I get why you're here. Nathan and Elena hurt you. You don't want it to happen again."

"But you think that I'm crazy. To believe that I can protect myself from two vampires who have flipped the switches on their humanity!" Ariana exclaimed.

"I think you found a way to get out of bed this morning. And that makes you the strongest person I know. I think that you can do pretty much anything." Alaric murmured.

---

Ariana, Caroline, and Bonnie were in front of the school.

"Here we are. Senior year." Caroline spoke.

"Anyone else think it should feel slightly more empowering?" Bonnie mumbled.

"Okay. So prank night was a bust." Caroline frowned. "But we are accepting it, and we are moving on."

"You're right." Bonnie sighed. "I mean, why should I let the fact that my boyfriend is seeing the ghost of his dead girlfriends hinder this experience?"

"Yes! And why should I let the fact that my boyfriend was turned into a hybrid put a damper on an otherwise fabulous day." Caroline shrugged.

Ariana sighed, looked down, before putting a fake smile on her face as she stared at the school.

"Let's do this."

---

Ariana's phone rang, she answered. It was Damon.

"Hey."

"Hey!"

"I sense something strange in your tone, Damon. You hiding something? Spill."

"Fine... you might not want to come here for a while. We have a new housemate. Barbie Klaus."

"Rebekah? She's living with you now? Why?"

"She's stranded. Apparently Klaus left her in the dust after I name-dropped Mikael."

"What about Nathan and Elena? What are they up to?"
