No one's POV

A pounding noise echoed in the basement where the Augustine cells are. Damon was in his cell, punching the rock wall in frustration. A big piece of rock fell from the wall and he grabbed it.

Flashback

Aaron tried loading a gun with wooden bullets, but dropped some as he did it because his hands wouldn't stop shaking.

"Slick hands, cowboy." Damon smirked in amusement.

End of Flashback

Now, in the cell, Damon lay on the floor and put his arm through the gate, reaching for one of the bullets. He moved it with the tip of his fingers and finally retrieved it. He then put the bullet inside the keyhole of the cell's gate, grabbed a rock on the floor of his cell, and hit the keyhole, causing the bullet to explode. He tried to open the gate, but it didn't work.

"Come on!" Damon shook the gate furiously, but it didn't move. He starts kicking it in frustration, and eventually...

The gate popped open.

Ariana lay on a test bed. She opened her eyes and looked around. She looked very weak. She looked at one end of the room and saw a staircase, and gets a memory of her childhood. Ariana could've sworn she'd been there before... she just couldn't put her finger on it...

"Subject 83182 appears conscious." A voice suddenly spoke. Ariana snapped her head over to look at the owner of the voice. It was Wes, who was staring down at her.

"Where am I?" Ariana murmured weakly.

"Why? Look familiar?" Wes smirked, confirming Ariana's suspicions that it wasn't her first time there. She looked around and saw a big dialysis machine.

"What is that thing...?" She tried to free herself. "What are you doing to me?!"

"83182, resume prep for blood dialysis." Wes then put a mask over Ariana's mouth and nose. "Count from 10... 9, 8, 7, 6, 5..."

Ariana couldn't hear the rest of the countdown. She drifted into unconsciousness.

---

Wes was touching a big bag of blood strapped to an IV, speaking into his voice recorder.

"4.1 pints drained." He moved to look at Ariana and pointed his little flashlight on her closed eyes and she moved a little and opened her eyes. "83182 still shows signs of consciousness. Note that, 15 years ago, subject 12144 faded into unconsciousness after losing 2.9 pints." Ariana tried to free herself, then looked at the dialysis machine. "Evolution or luck? Mystery for another day."

"What are you doing to me? What are these tubes? Let me go!" Ariana exclaimed, panicked, as she tried to wriggle free out of the restraints. Wes opened a curtain as he approached a little table and wrote some notes down.

"Relax. I plan to once I'm through with you."

"My friends are gonna find me." Ariana snapped, her voice slurring slightly from how weak she had become. Wes turned to face her.

"Your heroic vampire friends?" He punched some buttons on the machine. "Did you know Aaron Whitmore spent his entire life thinking his family was haunted by some death curse? Turns out that curse was your boyfriend systematically killing every member on his family tree. I'm curious. How does one justify that in their mind?"

"And this, holding people against their will, torturing them? How do you justify that?" Ariana shot back. Her wrists were beginning to hurt from the restraints.
