Flashback

Madeline was delivering a baby. Katherine was gripping her hand, speaking soothing words to her twin, while their mother also helped her.

"Oshte malko, skŭpi, malko poveche. Natisnete... oshte malko. Malko po. Malko po. Natisnete!" The Pierce twins' mother said soothingly. (Translation: "A little more, dearest, a little more. Push... a little more. A little more. A little more. Push!")

Madeline pushed and screamed. She delivered two babies. Her mother took them. Her father was watching.

"Tova e dve momicheta, M... ti rodi momicheta bliznatsi." Katherine smiled, still holding her sister's hand. (Translation: "It's two girls, M... you delivered twin girls.")

"Momicheta bliznatsi?" Madeline whispered, tired from labor. (Translation: "Twin girls?") She looked at her mother. "Molya te, maĭko, daĭ mi da gi vidya." (Translation: "Please, mother, let me see them.")

But when her mother went to hand Madeline's twin girls to her, Madeline's father stopped his wife.

"Zheno, nedeĭ! Kakvo pravish?" (Translation: "Woman, don't! What are you doing?")

So, instead, Madeline's mother gave the twins to her father.

"Otche, ne mozhesh da napravish tova! Tya zasluzhava da dŭrzhi detsata si!" Katherine yelled, releasing Madeline's hand and standing up. (Translation: "Father, you can't do this! She deserves to hold her children!")

"Da, tochno tova! Neka pone vednŭzh da gi dŭrzha... samo vednŭzh!" Madeline begged as tears poured down her face that was already covered in sweat. (Translation: "Yes, exactly that! Let me at least hold them once... just once!")

"Zabravi! Vie opozorikhte tova semeĭstvo!" The Pierce twins' father snapped, then left with the two babies. Their mother followed after him. (Translation: "Forget it! You have disgraced this family!")

Madeline cried and screamed with the loss of her babies.

"Tatko, molya te! Ne, tatko, ne! Ne mozhesh da mi otnemesh bebetata! Molya te!"
(Translation: "Father, please! No, father, no! You can't take my babies from me! Please!")

"Tolkova uzhasno sŭzhalyavam, Mariya... Znam, che nikoga nyama da izpitam bolkata, koyato izpitvash v momenta, sestro..." Katherine embraces Madeline. (Translation: "I am so terribly sorry, Maria... I know that I'll never experience the pain that you are currently feeling, sister...")

Madeline continued to cry.

"Ne, Katerina, molya te ... ne mozhesh da pozvolish na bashta da napravi tova, sestro ... te sa moi detsa! Vashite plemennitsi!"
Madeline exclaimed, sobbing into her twin's shoulder. (Translation: "No, Katerina, please... you can't let father do this, sister... they're my children! Your nieces!")

"Znam... Sŭzhalyavam... Shsh, tuk sŭm, sestro, shte se opravish... vinagi shte me imash, obeshtavam..." Katherine murmured softly. (Translation: "I know... I'm so sorry... shh, I'm here, sister, you'll be alright... you'll always have me, I promise...")

"Molya te, ne davaĭ obeshtaniya, koito ne mozhesh da spazish, sestro... Prosto iskakh da zadŭrzha moite momichentsa... k-krasivite mi momichentsa..." Madeline sobbed harder. Katherine's heart broke for her sister. (Translation: "Please don't make promises you can't keep, sister... I just wanted to hold my baby girls... m-my beautiful baby girls...")
