Chapter 7: Mommie Dearest
Word Count: 3045

Skylar and Enzo were walking around an old junkyard, where they were walking through rows of old and abandoned cars, some of which were badly smashed up. Skylar had a piece of paper in her hand with the license plate number of Oscar's car as the two worked on trying to find it.

"Why would a centuries-old vampire with a bunch of witch groupies be so desperate to find anything collecting dust in the Midlothian County impound?" Skylar asked skeptically. "Seems a little beneath him."

"Well, if Julian wants it, then so do I." Enzo shrugged. Skylar gave him an incredulous look.

"Are we talking about Oscar's car, or my grandmother?" Enzo, knowing that she'd got a point, said nothing. "You're not doing this to stop a psychopath. You just want the girl."

"Congratulations. You've just unlocked every man's true motivation in life." Enzo muttered sarcastically.

"Let me give you some advice. Stop treating my grandmother like some prize to be won." Skylar advised seriously.

"Spoken like somebody who's never been fought over." Enzo scoffed.

"It's not the turn-on you think it is. I don't wish to be fought over when I've always had my mind set on just one." Skylar rolled her eyes. "Try flowers. A quiet dinner. Listening."

Enzo chuckled in amusement, and Skylar stopped walking when she saw a yellow car with a smashed back window that had the correct license plate they were looking for.

"Found it."

"Well, I'm assuming Julian doesn't want it for it's Bluebook value." Enzo wrinkled his nose in distaste. He took a deep breath as he walked toward the car's trunk. "Charming." He opened up the trunk to find that it was full of empty beer bottles and several bottles of automobile oil. Skylar watched as Enzo lifted the carpeting covering the spare tire compartment and pulled out the tire, revealing a long object wrapped in a dirty cloth. When Enzo picked it up and unravelled it, he found a silver shortsword inside of it. The end of the blade was in the shape of an X, and Enzo examined it closely. "I'll wager this is what Julian's looking for. Wonder what makes it so special?"

Skylar's eyes widened, and it appeared that she recognized the sword.

"That... that was the sword from 1903! Before we were trapped in the prison world." Skylar's eyes widened in horror. "She... she stabbed Beau with that thing! The blasted girl was crazy. She stabbed him prior to leaving England with us."

"Who stabbed Beau, Skylar?" Enzo asked carefully after Skylar had finished her small ramble. But Skylar could not muster up her name as fear flashed through her blue eyes.

"I-I can't tell you... I can't risk it. Just... that sword is really dangerous, Enzo."

"I'll take my chances." Enzo smirked, and then repeated his earlier statement. "If Julian wants it, then so do I."

"Good idea! Go pick a fight with an extremely powerful, unhinged ancient vampire! Should work out great." Skylar mocked, annoyed. Enzo, amused by their banter, smirked at her.

"Is that a hint of concern for me I detect in your voice?"

Skylar rolled her eyes, though she seemed to be enjoying the banter just as much. But as her mind flashed back to her wonderful girlfriend, she shook her head to rid herself of any thoughts of Enzo, and smirked at him playfully.

"Now that I think about it, go ahead. Your funeral! But while you have fun with that, I have a girlfriend to attend to. At least my love isn't unrequited like someone's."
