Logan shouldn't have 'lived a little' like Roman pressured him to do earlier that evening. With parents like his own, you don't 'live a little' - it was against their rule book. You have curfews, and aren't allowed to go to certain places without their permission - nine times out of ten, they won't give out said permission. Logan would be lucky if he got out of this night without some (-abuse-) physical discipline.

It was odd to be told off by them with such velocity, he was a good kid, he never did anything to get into trouble. He followed all of their rules, because they were his parents, he would rather follow rules, anyway, than break them - that was just his natural personality, but it annoyed him after so many years of obeying, that with one slip up like this he was being yelled at as if this was 'the last straw' because he was a trouble maker. He was the complete opposite.

While he stared at their faces, barely retaining any of the words they spat at him, he realised he didn't...know these people. Let him explain. They were his parents, he knew their names, he knew their age, their job, where they lived - obviously - but he didn't know them. Shouldn't he know their likes and dislikes? Shouldn't he know what angers them, what makes them happy, what they enjoy doing outside of work, favourite things, stuff like that?

His friends know. His friends know that stuff about their parents. Many evenings he has spent with his friends and their parents while having dinner, they talk, they laugh, they share jokes, they go back and forth at each other with harmless banter; it hurt Logan, in a way, that he didn't have that sort of relationship with the people that made him.

That he didn't...love them.

What a revelation, huh? The people that accidentally make his life harder than it should be are the people he can't love. He feels like he's stuck in a room with no escape, the only way to move is forward, but if he hits one of the red lasers, that's it - his parents explode. He was sure they don't do this on purpose, they want what's best for their son, they want him to be obedient, have good grades, a wealthy job, and possibly a future family.

Logan wanted that, too. But he also wanted a Mom, and a Dad, not...security cameras.

"Are you even listening to me!?" His Mother exasperated. Logan stared at her, blinking, until his phone beeped with a message. Glancing at the screen, he saw it was from his closer friend, Virgil, wondering if he was alright. Ah yes, that reminded him of why he was here and not with his group of friends.

Somehow, his parents found out they had gone to a party - they came and made a whole scene, telling Logan he was 'never allowed to see his friends again' or some bullshit he wasn't about to standby. He had followed each and every one of their rules; but this one? He couldn't. It would destroy him. He's felt alone for so long, but this half year everything changed, he made friends, he fell for one of them.

That's right; he has a crush. On a boy. As if his parents didn't have enough reasons to call him a failure. Why doesn't he throw away school while he's at it?

No, the mere idea makes him shudder. He isn't doing well in school for them, he's doing it for himself. He doesn't need their praise, he doesn't need their anything- not anymore. It's too late for that.

Before his dad could snatch away his phone, he shot a text in response to Virgil, asking if he could come over and pick him up, with his parents. Standing up, Logan straightened out his tie and glasses, turning to his parents who looked beyond furious; he was sure they were especially mad that Logan hasn't stared crying, or begging for their forgiveness.

His expression was cold, one they hadn't seen before, or maybe they had, they just weren't...looking.

"Have you finished your temper tantrum?" Logan didn't know if he felt joy from seeing their faces darken red with rage and embarrassment.

"Logan-"

"I hope you have, because I have something to say; what do you expect will come out of this?" He crossed his arms, raising an eyebrow, "do you think I will fall down to my knees and apologise? Do you think this tyrant speech will change me?" He pushed his glasses up his nose, taking particular care in gazing at their expressions that changed from the anger they previously felt; holding more...annoyance, than anything. Because he knew they knew he was right.

"Well, it has changed me. This evening has changed quite a lot" manoeuvring out of the room, he pulled on a warm jacket, ready to leave. "Logan, don't you dare think you're about to leave after your actions tonight-"

"My actions?" Logan replied back, turning on his heel, eyes narrowed. "I simply went to a party; you were the ones to make this into a much bigger mess than it needed to be-"

"Don't talk to us like that-" his dad tried, but Logan quipped in.

"Don't talk to me like that!" He roared with sudden rage he didn't know he had. "You think I'm a disgrace from going to one party? I feel like I'm the adult here! Have some decency to stop yelling and talk!" Okay, maybe he was being a hypocrite, but the only way he could get his point across was to raise his voice so they understood the clarity of this situation.

A car honking outside made Logan open the front door, but before he could leave his mother grabbed his arm. "You are not leaving-!" She exclaimed, but Logan wriggled free from her grasp, stumbling onto the porch.

"No, no, listen" he seethed, "you're not my parents; you can't tell me what to do" he carried on when they tried to get their word in, "you're not my parents yet, I don't know when you will be, or if you'll ever be, but you've never treated me with love or care, so until you learn from your mistakes, you're not my parents" he went to leave when a sudden thought popped into his head.

"Oh, and-" turning his head, "I do not love you - maybe I will in the future, but that is all on you" gulping thickly, he hurried into Virgil's car, telling them to drive before his parents could snap from their revere and rush after him.

Was he going too far with this? He couldn't tell.

But for once in his life he didn't feel like he was locked behind bars.
