Trigger warning: mentions of past death

Au

"Hey, Kitten" Virgil murmured to his boyfriend who was leaning against his locker, staring into the dark space filled with a few of his books and binders. Logan cleared his throat and glanced over to Virgil with a weak, shaky, forced smile. "Salutations, Dear" he replied back with a croaky voice, Virgil noticing the red rim of his eyes that Logan had so desperately tried to hide with makeup. Gently, Virgil placed his hand on Logan's forearm, staring at him in concern.

"Lo...you promised you wouldn't hide this from me"

He sighed and held his face in his hands, glasses thrown into his locker. "I know!" he replied back hoarsely, shaking. "I know" he whispered this time, sniffling. "I-it's coming up to the anniversary of her death and I-I can't...stop thinking about it" Virgil frowned and shuffled closer, rubbing Logan's back soothingly. "C'mon, you're not fit for school like this - we can go home"

Logan shook his head at the idea of returning to his home in particular. "Come to mine then? Please? You know they don't mind your company" Logan sagged a little, but he always did feel better around Virgil's parent. He collected a few things, desperately trying to hold back from crying in the middle of the hallway - Virgil hated seeing him in such a state, and would remind him crying helps, but he knows how much Logan despises seeming vulnerable in front of a crowd.

They manoeuvred through the swarm of people all trying to find their friends and go to classes, when they reached the front office, Virgil thankfully spotted one of their friends; Roman. He was apart of their friendship group, meaning he could tell them all where they were without texts disturbing them. Leaving Logan by the desk, he hurried over and tapped his shoulder.

"Ah, Virgil!" He greeted vivaciously, spotting a teary eyed Logan a few feet away. Instantly concern washed over him, and he frowned at Virgil who nodded to his silent question. "I see" Roman murmured, "I shall tell the others, take good care of him like you usually do" Roman smiled, giving him a quick side hug. Virgil nodded and watched as he rubbed Logan's shoulder reassuringly on his way down to his class. Logan sent him a brief smile in appreciation, but both knew it held empty happiness.

Virgil faked an illness and the school called his parent in. The two sat on the given chairs and waited in silence, Logan focusing on the feeling of Virgil playing with his hand. Ten minutes later, Virgil looked up when he heard his parent's worried voice. "Oh, V!" She hurried over, "what's wrong? Are you sick? Do-" they paused when they noticed Logan, taking in his state, they instantly realised what was happening. "Ah.." they drifted, "I see. Come on then, you two, let's get you home"

They signed both children out and the two sat in the back. "Do you need anything, Lo?" Virgil's parent asked as they began to drive home. "N-" he coughed, "no, I am fine" he spoke shortly, "Thank you, anyway, Sam" they nodded and continued the drive in silence, flicking on the radio for Logan to focus his attention on. Pulling up the driveway a little while later, Virgil and Logan walked hand in hand inside, Sam letting them hurry upstairs so Logan could cry in front of one of the only people he would allow himself to.

Virgil knew exactly what to do at that point. It's happened every year around this time, and every year it spans over the same few days until Logan is fine again. Of course, he never is truly okay, but he can last throughout a day without thinking of her. In two days it would be the sixth year anniversary of Logan's sister's death. He was ten years old when it happened. The day will haunt him forever. Hearing his mothers screams. Seeing his fathers pale white face. Not knowing what the hell was going on until he saw her being taken out the house by a few paramedics.
