Logan placed the bowl of cereal he prepared for his son on the kitchen table beside a bottle of milk he would pour in after so it didn't go soggy too soon. While tying the tie around his neck, he walked up the stairs and down the hallway to Virgil's room, softly knocking on the dark door before opening it slowly, spotting his son laying in his small bed, thumb hanging from his parted lips, night light shining across the room.

With a gentle smile, Logan walked over, almost feeling bad for waking him up, but he was starting school soon, so Logan wanted to have a fun last few days together before he would be gone for half of it. Shaking his small shoulder, the young boy stirred, twisting his face up slightly, trying to catch the dream that was slipping from his mind, but when he blinked open his eyes, it was gone, and he was staring up at the sharply chiselled face of his father.

"Good morning, Virgil" Logan made sure to keep his voice quiet, watching the boy rub his eyes with clenched knuckles, yawning cutely. "Morning, daddy..." he mumbled back tiredly, shifting further into his warm duvet, willing himself to fall back to sleep.

"It is time to wake up, Virgil, otherwise we will be late" Logan spoke up, walking over to his closet to pull out his clothes he wanted to wear. The small boy had recently gotten into darker clothing; Logan never thought it was odd, neither did he try and force other clothes onto the boy - if he felt comfortable in black leggings and black jackets, who was he to take that away from him?

Grabbing his favourite jacket from it's usual place on his small, plastic yellow chair, Logan laid them on the end of his bed, noticing his eyes light up when he saw it. "Late for what?" His soft voice questioned, yawning again afterwards as Logan helped him sit up.

"We are going to the aquarium, remember?"

This made little Virgil perk up and nod hurriedly, saying he'd be down in a few minutes. Logan chuckled lightly and left the room for him to change, hearing him hurry down the staircase and into the room. While clambering onto his seat, Logan grabbed the carton of milk and poured in his milk. "I told you to not run down the stairs. If you fall, it could result in serious injuries" Logan told him sternly, Virgil's eyes widening into innocent, puppy dog type ones.

"Sorry, daddy..." he murmured apologetically, smiling a little when Logan ran a hand through his dark brown hair. "Try not to do it again" Virgil nodded and dug into his cereal, having to roll up his sleeves every few moments, as his jacket was too big for him, but he didn't mind, he preferred to be able to make sweater paws in awkward situations. And when he's nervous in general.

Once they were both ready, Logan helped him into the car, letting him move his booster seat to the front after a lot of pleading. During the course of the journey, they shared uplifting conversations - mostly about the scenery, and what they would do at the aquarium - instead of listening to the radio. Logan found talking was much more entertaining.

"Here we are" Logan commented after parking the car, noticing the awe struck expression resting on his sons face. It was adorable. Jumping out the car, Logan gripped Virgil's hand tightly as they waded through the crowds to look at the different types of fish the aquarium had to offer. It was loud, and many times Virgil hid behind his father, away from other children and adults, but most of the time he was content by his dads side, happy to listen to his rambles about the different types of fish.

"Greetings, dear nerd!"

Both turned around to see Logan's friend, Roman, with his boyfriend, Patton. The latter waved enthusiastically at Logan, dragging him into a tight hug afterwards. "Hey, Logan! Didn't expect to see you here!" He sounded chipper, intertwining his fingers with Roman's hand again. He smiled slightly at his two love birds of friends, "I thought it would be a good learning experience for Virgil" Logan explained, squeezing Virgil's hand lightly when mentioning his name.

Patton grinned wider when he looked down at the boy, bending down and stretching his arms out. Virgil glanced up at Logan who nodded before crashing into Patton's arms, letting the cardigan-clod scoop him up into the air and twirl him around affectionately. His laughter filled up the air around them, which made them all smile brightly at how adorable Virgil was.

"We must be going before we're late for our reservation!" Roman commented, gripping Patton's hand once Virgil was on the floor again and standing beside his dad. "Have fun, you two!" Patton called as he was dragged away to finish the rest of their date.

Logan, feeling elated, carried on with his son who once again relaxed now that he was alone with his dad.

"Can I touch it?" Virgil motioned to an open tank, more specifically at a starfish. Logan tilted his head slightly, slowly nodding. "Sure, what's the harm?" Smiling in delight, Virgil leaned on the tank and stuck his finger into the water, tentatively stroking the skin, giggling as he did so. Logan watched on with a gentle smile, feeling a sudden urge to cradle the boy to his chest and never let go.

They spent another few hours at the aquarium before taking a walk along the beach not too far away. It was quite empty, so they were able to go by without any social interaction. Logan taught Virgil how to skim stones across the water, they also helped a few crabs who were trapped in a pile of litter and even went (mini) rock climbing, although Logan made sure to keep a firm grip on Virgil in case he slipped and fell over.

The entire day ran by smoothly - after lunch the two found themselves home again, giggling over a silly joke Logan had made. Walking by the dining room, Logan noticed he forgot to put away the milk, so while letting Virgil go up to his bedroom he picked it up along with the bowl, tidying everything up before heading to Virgil's bedroom.

The boy was sitting in the middle of the room, toys in his hands as they made them act our certain scenarios. Logan kneeled beside him, wrapping an arm around his small waist and pressing a kiss to his forehead his bangs usually fell across. Curiously, Virgil looked up at his dad who smiled that soft smile reserved for his son only.

"I love you, Virgil"

This made the boy giggle and grin, nuzzling into his dads side.

"I love you, too" he murmured in response, leaning into his side as he carried on playing with his dolls.

Logan watched on, content and happy.
