Au

Roman fingered the end of his t-shirt in worriment, standing in the doorway to the kitchen, watching his father move around the counters, making dinner. He hadn't felt this nervous around his dad for years, the last time he did was when he was merely nine years old and he broke a neighbours lawnmower (not by accident).

He didn't know if he could tell him yet, but the occurrence happened four weeks ago, and Roman knew he wouldn't be able to keep it a secret for much longer.

He gulped in some deep breaths quietly, letting them go after a few seconds, remembering the technique his friend, Virgil, taught him when Roman had a mild panic attack over a performance he was going to act in that same day.

Swallowing thickly, he let go of his top and flexed his fingers, letting his arms drop by his side to try and put up a happy demeanour for a few minutes.

"Padre!" Roman exclaimed, finally entering the room and alerting the man of his presence. Patton whirled around and grinned, hurrying over to his son and yanking him into a tight hug, pressing a kiss to his forehead afterwards. "Hey, Kiddo! How was your day?" He asked once he finally let go, booping's Roman's nose before he turned back to cutting up vegetables.

"Oh, practically perfect in every way" Roman mused, hugging his father from behind and watching as he skilfully chopped up everything on the wooden board. "In fact, so good I have some news. Rather important news" Roman added, removing himself from his dad and turning his back on him.

"Oh? What is it, Kiddo?"

Roman felt his stomach shred up with nerves. "Can we sit down?" He asked meekly and Patton instantly agreed, the two taking a seat at the table. His father placed his hand onto his sons, staring at him with a concerned look. Roman smiled weekly, squeezing his fathers hand gratefully; he couldn't have a better dad.

Roman breathed out steadily and closed his eyes, "Do you remember..."

"The twenty first night of September?" Patton finished with a cocked head. Roman chortled but shook his head, indicating it wasn't the time for jokes. Patton stayed silent.

"A few weeks ago, I went out with a few friends?"

Patton nodded, he did. "Well..." he scratched the back of his neck, wincing and staring at the table while twisting the tablecloth between his fingers. "I did something stupid, dumb and stupid" he admitted, closing his eyes once more for a few passing seconds. "He said he used a condom but I..." Patton's eyes widened when he caught onto what Roman was suggesting, lifting his free hand to cover his mouth, the other still holding onto Roman's.

"And I'm sorry" he whispered, voice breaking as tears welled up in his eyes. "I-I didn't want to...to..." he met Patton's gaze, tears slowly slipping down his cheeks. "I can't be a dad-not-not yet...please, please help me" Roman begged, face twisting up as he began to cry harder. Patton arose from his chair and pulled Roman up too, gently, and wrapped him in a comforting hug, one Roman greatly appreciated.

"Oh, Ro" Patton whispered, reaching up to rub his back. "I'm here" he reassured, "I'll always be here for you" Patton slowly leaned back, reaching up to brush away his tears. "Now; what do you want to do?"

Roman shrugged and used his sleeves to wipe away his running tears. "I-I-I don't want it..." he admitted, voice barely above a whisper.

"I know, son, I know" Patton held his hands, "and that's okay. It's perfectly okay. Whatever decision you make I'll be here for you, I promise" Roman managed a shaky smile, the two hugging once again.

"Thank you, papa"
