"Keep rowing, lazy bastards!" The 'captain' of the small row boat snarled, dragging a large breath of smoke from his cigarette. The two crew members rolled their eyes and sped up, grumbling to themselves. The sea around them was calm, unmoving, like it was frozen in time. The cold, salty air nipped at their skin covered with baggy, not-so-warm clothing.

They couldn't see any land, a mist had fallen across the distance, circling them. However, they weren't lost, with the compass directing them north where they knew home was. They felt like they had been rowing forever, their arms were close to dropping off. The crew truly thought they would pass out until they heard a noise which distracted them from their inner turmoil.

The captain knocked his hat back, eyes narrowed and poised on the ocean around them. "What was that?" He grumbled, turning to his crew who both shrugged, glared and kept rowing. The captain went to complain when they heard the same noise again. It was like something was tapping against their boat from underneath. They all looked over the side but couldn't see anything, that was until one crew member saw a flicker of dark blue amidst the grey ocean. "It's a fish" he concluded angrily, grabbing the ore again.

The captain didn't buy it, and kept his attention on the water. They kept moving, slowly but surely across the dark depth when something different stopped them. Not a tap this time; but instead a hum. "What the hell...?" The captain snarled in confusion, reaching for his gun hanging from his belt. "Sounds like a girl" one crew member commented - silence befell them all in hopes they would hear the sound again. Low and behold, they did.

From the front of the boat was a soft  hum that turned into a drawn-out note. Everyone turned to see the top half of a boy emerging from the water, mouth parted as the angelic tune floated from his mouth. "A...a mermaid?" The captain whispered in pure shock and awe, the song mesmerising them all to silence. The mermaid with blue wavy hair moved through the water with ease to the side of the boat, lifting himself up further to rest his arms across the rim of the boat, still singing his angelic wordless song.

The captain reached out and stroked his cheek, unable to stop himself. The mermaid leaned into it, his gills flexing on his neck. "Look at you" a crew member murmured. The mermaid grinned and flicked his light blue tail into the air, splashing it back into the water afterwards, like he was showing himself off. Everyone on the boat grinned.

Just as the captain was about to pull him on a second voice caught their attention. Turning to the other side of the boat, there was another mermaid, singing just as beautifully as the first. This one with red hair, his tail an ombré of orange, reds and a hint of yellow. He leaned on the boat, too, staring at the closest crew member with his fiery red eyes, gleaming with desire. The crew member reached out and touched him, this mermaid pressed his cheek into his palm, the wavering notes of their song filling up the air around them.

When the men thought it couldn't get any better, another mermaid appeared, but he wasn't singing. He had dark blue hair, in contrast to the light blue one, and kept his tail hidden under the water, but they were all sure his tail was glowing blue, too. He smiled at them all, hovering in the water beside light-blue mermaid, their elbows just barely touching where they laid across the rim of the boat. "We could get a fortune from these" The captain spoke with sudden glee, the crew both grinned mischievously, slowly reaching for the mermaids when a fourth appeared next to the red. He had purple hair and like the dark-blue mermaid, kept his tail hidden. They assumed it was purple as well.

"We're gonna be rich" a crew member exclaimed, reaching to the purple mermaid, but as soon as he touched him, red and light-blue's singing stopped abruptly. They turned to see why, flinching back when they noticed their gentle, curious expressions had fallen into a glare. "What the...?" The captain murmured, making a noise of surprise when they all submerged back under the water.

"Look what you did!" The captain suddenly roared, ready to attack the crew member when the light-blue mermaid reappeared, singing again but this time he reached out towards the captain who relaxed and grinned, reaching back and allowing the mermaid to slowly drag him into the water. For a moment, the crew felt spikes of jealously in their hearts, but when dark-blue and red mermaid came back to pull them in, too, it was forgotten in seconds.

When they were all underwater, staring at the mermaid's eyes, they noticed they opened their mouths, fangs that weren't there before protruding. The three men screamed, bubbles pushing out of their mouth and up to the surface, but they couldn't get away. Quickly, and quite suddenly, their necks were ripped open. Red mermaid and dark-blue mermaid didn't hesitate to eat and shred their skins pushing aside the clothes while they continued the feast.

Purple mermaid and light-blue mermaid had the captain who was bigger than the crew, sharing his flesh and organs as they fed and fed without stopping until all that was left were ripped clothes, floating bones and blood swirling around them.

"Humans" red mermaid, Roman, mused, floating on his back and licking his bloody teach. "They're so delicious!" Light-blue mermaid, Patton, laughed, twirling around and collecting the clothes, putting them back onto the boat.

Dark blue mermaid, Logan, nodded in agreement, picking at the flesh stuck in his teeth. "And idiotic, too" He added, rolling his eyes and flaring his gills. "Which is a good thing" purple mermaid, Virgil, shrugged, floating towards Roman who grinned and pulled him close, the two kissing and relishing in the taste of blood from both of their mouths.

"And they had the audacity to touch what was mine" Roman whispered, stroking Virgil's cheek. The mermaid shook his head in a flustered state, hiding his face against Roman's neck. The mermaid only grinned and held him close, running a hand down his back and around his fin.

Patton watched while cooing, resting on Logan's tail he bent, as if he was sitting down and Patton was in his lap. Wanting some affection, too, Patton turned to his love and wrapped his arms around his neck, running a hand through his floating hair and pushing his head closer so the two could share a short and sweet kiss.

"Love you, Logy" Patton whispered into his ear.

"I love you, too"

"BIIIIITCHES!" a sudden voice disturbed both couples' romantic moments. They looked over to see their other mer-friend swimming quickly over to them with a wicked grin. "Guess what~?" They asked teasingly, eyeing them all with a smirk. "What, Remy?" Logan exasperated, arms still curled around Patton's torso.

Remy gestured to the way they came, "we found a cruise" they winked, and all the mermaid's ears perked up at the word, eyes gleaming over once more. They all let go of each other and darted through the water with only one thought in mind;

Food.

I saw this post about how when depicting mermaids it's mostly them sitting on rocks and being all pretty, and they should have more of the gory/eating humans side, so here it is!
