Lando came over to my house to meet my family. My family was big and we had lots and lots of family members living in one house. We had my three siblings, my mother, father, uncle, cousin and two read parents all under one roof. "So, which one should I wear then?" Lando asked again choosing between the navy jumper with a shirt or the light brown. "Once again Lando, the darker one is far nicer. Now come on! I'm gonna be late to my own family dinner." He puts the jumper on and walks back to you sitting on the bed. "Okay but how about my hair then?" I roll my eyes. "You look good anyway Lando but seriously, we need to go. We live two hours away from my family home and here you are deciding whether or not to style your hair last minute." I comment earning a laugh from him in return. I peck his lips. "They will love you." and they did. My mother had met Lando before and Dad did as a fan during a formula 2 race at silverstone two years ago but he never thought his daughter would be dating Lando Norris.

Lando was sat in between me and my grandfather and I was relieved honestly. I loved my he and father with every fibre of my being. He used to watch formula one a lot and he's one of the reasons I began watching it. He fell in love with the sport but since the day the great Ayrton Senna passed away, he hasn't watched a single race and so, he gave all of his old, retro formula one stuff to me. His jacket, his replica helmet, the lot. I wore the Senna jacket and shirt to the race I met Lando actually and he loved that jacket on me. "So you like racing?" Lando asked your grandad. "I used to. I haven't watched any recently, but I hear you are quite the racer." he chuckles. Lando nods and smiles. "Yes. I drive for McLaren this season and next season. I'd like to be good enough to stay with them a while longer though." my grandad choked up a bit. He couldn't think of anyone else when he heard McLaren other than Senna. Senna meant a lot to him. "Yes. I'd like to see you race but I can't bring myself to watch it."

"Oh? How come?" Lando asked curiously. I wanted to interject and try stop the conversation but by the time I tried, there my grandad was off talking about racing. "I used to watch and support McLaren years ago, back when the likes of Hunt and Senna were racing but I haven't watched a single race since my favourite racer passed away." Lando's heart broke for the man. He could hear the hurt in the old man's voice and it saddened him a bit until he thought of a great idea. "Do you wanna see his car?" Grandad lifted his head and stayed there in shock. The thought of seeing his racing hero's race car was too good to be true. "If it's not too much of a hastle for you Mr Y/L/N, I'd like to bring you to the McLaren Technology Centre to have a look at the boulevard." Lando smiles. I sit awaiting my grandfather's response. He laughs slightly and begins crying. Lando didn't quite know what to do but it didn't matter because my grandad pulled him into a hug. "I'd love to. Thank you Lando." he says through a web of tears.

A week had passed since the dinner and Lando had arranged for my grandfather to come up and see the Technology centre. Lando went on the journey with me to collect my gramps and it went pretty smoothly. As we crossed parked, I look back at my grandfather. He is in awe of the place. He was one step closer to achieving his dream. "You okay?" I ask him. He turns his head around and nods. "It's changed quite a bit since I last watched Formula One. It used to be all concrete floors not squeaky clean tiles." he joked. Lando and I helped my grandad get out of the car and we helped him around the technology centre. Lando had to go and do a few things first so my grandad agreed that we go and watch my boyfriend at work.

It wasn't until after lunch that we went to have a look down the boulevard. We walked slowly past each car as Lando told us both what each car was and who it belonged to, however, my grandad didn't need Lando to tell him the earlier cars, he already knew them. "Oh there's Emerson Fittipaldi's McLaren. Je won the championship in that car. James Hunt's car and there's Alain Prosts and-" He couldn't even speak. The masterpiece that was in front of him was truly astonishing. "Ayrton's. That's Senna's." I nod. "Do you want to get closer?" Lando asks helping my grandad forward. He reaches his hand out and slowly touches it. It was better than he'd thought it would be. It was beyond perfect. The colour, the shape, the driver. Everything.

"I can't believe it. I touched Senna's car." I smile and let a few tears escape my eyes. Lando might not have known how much it meant to my grandad but it meant so much more than I'd ever know either. He sat on a stool just looking at the car so Lando and I decided to look out at the view. "He'll never forget this you know." I say to Lando. He nods. "I hope he doesn't." Lando jokes. I turn fully around to Lando. "No. Seriously. Thank you Lando. You don't know how much this means to him." Lando pulls me into his chest and smiles. "I know I don't know, but I think he likes me." I crack a laugh an d playfully slap his chest. "Come on. Let's bring him home." I say turning around.

"Hey grandad, you ready to go?" I ask. He doesn't move. "I don't want to go. I want to stay here." he says. There goes your heart. "I know, but we have to go. Nana is waiting for you at home." He sighs. "I suppose so. Well Ayrton," he kisses his finger and lays it on the car. "It's been nice speaking to you. Maybe one day, I'll even get to meet you."

Dedicated to my grandfather who inspired this story. Its true, he hasn't watched a race since Senna's unfortunate passing but he watched the Silverstone Grand Prix 2020 and took a liking to Lando Norris because he drove the McLaren so I mushed them together and wrote a story about it. The things he said about Senna and his car is also in there too and it brought me to tears a few times writing it so I hope you enjoyed it❤️
