This was driving Max crazy. He'd seen this girl everywhere he had ever gone in his life and he was pretty sure she saw him too. He'd be out with his friends and see the mysterious girl in the corner of his eye, she was everywhere. It became a game of cat and mouse because now, it happened so frequently that the pair had a tally on how many times in a month he would see each other but not really think anything of it other than pure coincidence or extreme luck. I'm pretty sure Cupid was banging his head off the walls at this point because all the signs were there to just go and talk to each other, it wasn't a coincidence but of course, they both kept their mouths shut. Y/n on the other hand was always wherever they raced because her father was always at the races. He was the team principal for Mercedes and made sure to set ground rules for her to follow, which included not getting attacmtched to drivers or getting into relationships with them, knowing they would probably be trouble. That was until Y/n saw Max Verstappen walking around from time to time and couldn't help but gawk at him. She knew who he was but he didn't know her.

That was until Y/n finished her course in Race Engineering and applied for a job for Red Bull.Christian had called her in to show her around, let her meet her new colleagues and most importantly, the drivers. Everything was fine and dandy until she saw him again and her nerves shot up. "Y/n, these are our drivers. Alex Albon and Max Verstappen." She shook hands with Alex and then turned to Max. He knew exactly who she was and offered out a smile and a handshake. This is the guy she kept randomly bumping into. She wanted to know his name but thought it would just be weird if she walked up and asked so she never did. (yeah bc randomly seeing someone almost every week of your life isn't as weird.) "Boys, this is Y/n, Max's new Race engineer but she will sometimes be for Alex just in case he needs a more experienced engineer. She will be coming to all the races from now on so I'll leave you to get comfy. I'll be in my office if you need anything." and away he walked.

Alex was happy to see a new face but for Max, he was happy to see a familiar face that he'd never quite got a name to, until today. "So Y/n. You've finally found me and we're talking." he joked. "Yes. It appears so." Alex looked between the two with confusion growing. How did they know each other? "Are you two friends or?" he asked, wanting to know the answer. "You know that mystery girl that is everywhere we go? The girl that only I, for some reason, can see but you cannot" Alex nods. "Tada. Here she is." Y/n's cheeks were stained red by the blush that had gradually appeared. "Oh wow. So will you shut up about her then?"

"No mate. She just got here." he turned to her with a smirk. "How about we leave him and get a coffee, maybe some lunch?" Alex scoffed at the slight rudeness but was put at ease when the new race engineer asked for him to be included. "Well my job includes making sure he doesn't do anything stupid so he kinda has to come. Even if it wasn't my job, I'd invite him." After the trio decided what they were going to do, they set off for lunch. "So how come you never asked for each others names before?" Alex asked a bit intrigued. "I personally thought it would be weird if I had just walked up and straight up asked for his name honestly, but I got there. It just took five years of college and a job at Red Bull Racing." Alex let out a chuckle. "If I'm being honest, I already knew his name. I knew who he was. I'm always in the paddock because I have family working in formula one full time." She says. Alex urged her on to tell them who her family member was and who they were. To say they were caught by surprise was an understatement." I'll give you a clue. My badge says Y/n Wolff." Max choked on his drink and had to turn around to calm himself down while Alex was quite interested. "Oh. Nice. You must have karted or something when you were younger." Y/n nodded. "So Max, why didn't you go up to Y/n before if you kept seeing her? Surely-" Alex was about to continue before Max cut in with his explanation. "I had a girlfriend at the time but we aren't a thing anymore so there's no problem now." The atmosphere grew tense and awkward until Alex decided to excuse himself. He could sense they wanted to talk but he was sorta in the way.
