You heard the crowd of fans around you begin to talk amongst each other, murmuring things like "Oh my god, is that her?" "I think she's here!" "I see Anthony!" "There's Sheppard!" as you tried your best to get a glimpse through the two rows of taller people in front of you. For a split second, you got a sight of Ashley's blonde curls between a few people's arms, and your heart began to pound. After nearly two years of following her, you finally got the opportunity to tell you how much she means to you and how you've been watching her grow from her se7enteenblack days and all the other things you've wanted to say for so long. Except for that one thing about how big of a crush you've had on her, even though you thought it was unrealistic.
"Hey guys!" A familiar voice shouted. "Thanks for waiting for so long, hope you aren't too cold." You heard Ashley laugh and the rest of the crowd followed. She asked a few things like how everyone is doing and if everyone enjoyed the show, then she went off on a little spiel about your city before Anthony said something to her quietly that involved the word "time". You saw Ashley give a small nod and then Sheppard began to yell the directions.
The crowd nodded and mumbled agreements when he was done. He then said something to the security officers next to him who then approached us.
Venue security began to herd people to form a line that went down the barricade that had been set up and then veer off to the side once the barricade ended. You were the last person in the line, so it would still be a little while before you got to meet her. You went over what you wanted to say in your head, having it all planned out to a science. You decided that for your pose that you would do a cheesy prom-style picture, where she stands behind you and wraps her arms around you. Hopefully, your shyness won't get in the way of anything.
Your nerves increased as the line in front of you became shorter and shorter and you moved along the line, clutching an envelope with a necklace taped to it in one hand and a piece of paper and sharpie in the other. Eventually, there was only one girl in front of you and your heart was pounding faster than it ever had before. You watched Ashley give the girl a departing hug before Sheppard ushered you towards her saying, "You're up."
"Hi!" Ashley exclaims while reaching her arms out. You walk closer and pull each other into a hug, your body immediately ten times warmer, almost balancing out the cold 2AM winds. She smelled like chocolate milk, cigarettes, and a fancy brand of perfume, a scent that matched her perfectly. "Oh my god you're adorable, what's your name?" She asks as she pulls out of the hug to look at you.
"Y/N." You say quietly with a shy smile, feeling your cheeks warm. You habitually put your thumb up to your mouth and bit your nail as you realized that this was your chance to say all the things you wanted to say. You opened your mouth but found no words coming out. You racked your brain for all the words but everything came up blank, so you closed your mouth and giggled, embarrassed. Ashley smiled as you managed to sheepishly say, "Sorry, I forgot everything I was going to say." Nothing was going as you wanted it to, but you still managed to stay positive about the whole situation.
"Aw that's okay! Maybe it'll come back to you in a minute," she said. You thought you heard her mumble something involving the words "shy" and "adorable" under her breath as she quickly checked out a phone notification, but you dismissed it as hearing things. You took this opportunity to show hold out the envelope. "Sorry about that, got a confirmation text from the hotel we're gon- is that for me?" She interrupted herself, taking notice of your gift. You nodded and watched her eyes light up and her smile grow. You handed it over and she noticed the necklace taped to it that had a small jellyfish strung across the chain. "Oh my god this is so cute! I love it, thank you so much!" She exclaimed, reaching to pull you into another hug, which you returned. She looked at the necklace in detail, but couldn't help but notice her glancing up to meet your gaze every once in a while. You expected her to return the gift so you could give it to Jenna as you leave, but to your surprise she put it in her other hand and said "I'm gonna hold on to this one, I want to make sure I read the letter." You nodded, grinning and blushing wildly. She grinned right back. "So what do you want to do for your picture?"
The question snapped you out of your trance that kept your eyes on the gorgeous Ashley, and you quickly remember the pose idea. "I was thinking maybe a cheesy prom style picture if that's okay with you?" You ask in an almost half-whisper. She replied with an enthusiastic "sure!" and you gave your phone to Sheppard as you turned around to face the camera.
"God, you're so cute." She said while reaching arms around you and pulling you as close as she could with the barricade between you, warming you once again. You managed to get out a shaky "thank you" while Sheppard counted down before the camera flashed and Ashley released you from the embrace.
"Start wrapping it up," he said as he handed your phone back to you.
"Do uh... Do you think you could sign this for my friend? She lives a bit away and couldn't be here tonight," you said nervously, holding the paper and sharpie out slightly.
"Of course!" She replied, taking the materials from you and beginning to write. After you thought she was done, she looked up at you and smiled, then looked back at the paper. "Oh shit, I spelled my own name wrong!" She laughed as she went to work writing on another part of the paper, but this time she wrote for what seemed like a longer time, then folded the paper and handed it back to you.
As you took back the piece of paper, she began to strike up a conversation about your hair and you shyly responded to each sentence, running the piece of paper with her signature between your fingers. After a minute or two of chatting, Sheppard tapped her on the shoulder and told her that she needed to go. Ashley's grin dropped to a small smile and silenced the conversation.
"I have to go for bus call, I'm sorry. Make sure I spelled my name right on that paper before I leave, will you? Don't want to give your friend a typo," she requested. Before you looked down to open the paper you almost thought you saw a smirk on her face. You unfolded the paper and glanced down at the letters, noticing on the bottom not another spelling of "Halsey", but a strand of numbers. Her phone number.
You gasped quietly, looking up to meet Ashley's gaze, mouth slightly ajar. "No typos?" She said, winking. You shook your head, smiling, and she held her arms out for one last hug. You walked into her embrace, certainly not expecting her to whisper "We aren't leaving the city til tomorrow, so text me. I'd love to get brunch with you."
