Part 2: The Trip (Together) (Cont'd)

Day 2, Evening, Along the beach

Ye-Jin took a deep breath when they arrived at the beach. The crisp and slightly salty air soothed and cleared her mind. She didn't realize how much she missed the sea.

Hyun Bin smiled and tightened his hold on Ye-Jin's hand. "It's nice here," he said aloud.

They turned and their eyes met. They have many precious memories at beaches. The beach in Barcelona marked their first overseas trip together. The magic and excitement that encapsulated them as they strolled back after dinner at Port Vell was still vivid in their minds. The future was bright with endless possibilities. (A/N: Chapter 26, 27) The beach in Los Angeles had witnessed one of their first fights (absurdly about laundry) and was also their last destination before departing Los Angeles. (A/N: Chapter 51, 52) The beach near Daegu held memories of the Son family gathering before he left for Jordan. They had both realized then that they were ready to build their family together. (A/N: Chapter 127)

It was nice to be back at the beach. Three years on, the initial magic and excitement had mellowed and in its place, familiarity and a deep-seated contentment. Very different emotions but the underlying happiness and gratefulness were the same. They had built their home. They were complete.

Ye-Jin asked, "Do you believe in destiny, Tae-Pyung?"

Hyun Bin smiled and commented, "That came out of the blue."

She laughed and hooked her arms around his, "Being at the beach brought out my pensive side. Indulge me."

He would do anything for her, least of all answering a question. He thought for a moment and replied honestly, "Both yes and no."

Ye-Jin waited for him to expand on his answer.

He continued, "I believe in working for what I want. I don't think it's right to blame destiny when things don't work out. It's about how hard me and the people involved work. I recognize there are elements out of human control but they're rarely deciding factors. "

Ye-Jin nodded thoughtfully. She agreed with him and his down-to-earth and willingness to work hard was one of the things she loved most about him.

"Except you," he said bashfully after a long pause. "You made me believe in destiny." He let out a little laugh, "Is it strange for an almost forty year old man to say this?"

Ye-Jin smiled and said, "No, because I feel the same. Unless you think it's strange for an almost forty year old woman to believe in destiny?"

He laughed and teased, "I have to be honest, if it were anyone else but you, it really would be strange." He grinned when she gave him a mock glare and continued, "You're the family I've been dreaming about - even if it's not exactly what I imagined."

Ye-Jin gave him a puzzled look. Isn't that a contradictory statement? If she's what he's been dreaming about, how could she be not what he imagined?

Hyun Bin tried to explain, "For most of my life, my 'dream family' consists of a strong father, a pretty and capable mother and happy children. The father provides amply for his family and they are all happy and love each other. I always thought that was my end goal."
