Chapter 106: Side Stories on CLOY

Author's Note: Happy Tuesday everyone! I got caught up with trying to figure out the AAA voting app and didn't manage to finish the chapter yesterday 😂

I have wanted to write on the second story since the time I started this fanfic. To be honest, I really can't tell if HB was holding her hand. The sleeves really look different but my logical mind tells me they won't do it. So this is my version of how I think it went. Lol, you can let me know if you have alternative view.

Side Story 1: CLOY's 22% Rating

Hyun Bin and Ye-Jin were sitting on the sofa. The atmosphere was somewhat tensed and there was silence.

They were both staring intently at Ye-Jin's phone and she was impatiently tapping on the phone every few seconds. What were they doing?

They were waiting for Crash Landing on You's finale ratings to be released.

Suddenly, the webpage hanged for a second. Both Hyun Bin and Ye-Jin leaned forward simultaneously and knocked their heads. They winced and rubbed each other's head but their eyes never left the screen. The page refreshed and they both turned to each other, knocking their heads a second time in their excitement.

"23.2%!" Ye-Jin exclaimed. She gave Hyun Bin a tight hug. "I can't believe we crossed the 20% mark!"

Hyun Bin was beaming as he returned Ye-Jin's hug. Even though ratings were not everything, it was a direct indicator of a drama's popularity. To cross 20% was huge for a cable drama. It was as good as a 40% rating for a free-TV drama. It was great that the drama was closing with a bang. This was the best gift the viewers and fans could give them.

Hyun Bin smiled mischievously. He had another reason to be happy. He had won the bet. He knew there was no way Ye-Jin would forget although he's pretty sure she was now thinking if she could worm her way out of it. Not a chance.

Flashback to CLOY's press conference day (A/N: Chapter 77)

Hyun Bin and Ye-Jin had just finished their long day and were on their way home. They were in the car, bickering about ratings. Manager Kim was driving. He was dropping them home today. He shook his head at their conversation. Were they ten years old?

"Do you seriously expect 22% ratings?" Ye-Jin was incredulous. "Its one thing to say it on the program for entertainment effect and something else to really believe we can get 22%."

Hyun Bin didn't understand why it was a problem, shouldn't one should always aim high? "I don't expect 22%," he patiently explained. "I said we can achieve it if we work really hard."

What was the difference? Ye-Jin wondered. "And you really believe that?" She stared at Hyun Bin in amazement. He never failed to amaze her with his confidence, she wondered where he got it from.

Hyun Bin wanted to laugh at Ye-Jin's incredulous expression. Despite her many box office hits, Ye-Jin was an incredibly level-headed person. She had no ego when it came to results and would constantly down-play her achievements. It was one of the things Hyun Bin loves most about her, but it didn't mean he agreed with her assessment.

Don't be mistaken, Hyun Bin wasn't being arrogant. In fact, he usually responded similarly to Ye-Jin when it came to results. This project was different though. He had already seen the first edited episodes of the drama. Their chemistry was everything he had hoped for and more. He was this confident only because she was his partner.

Hyun Bin loved teasing Ye-Jin though. She was adorable when ruffled up, exactly like now. "Why don't we take a bet?" Hyun Bin dared Ye-Jin. He knew she was never back down from a dare.
