Author's Notes: I chanced across a translated version of Hyun Bin's interview with Esquire and I really liked his answers. It was mature and felt sincere to me. Given it was so sincere, I have to admit I probably did twist the context of his responses (the responses are real by the way assuming the translations were accurate) to suit my story, but its a fanfic after all, right?😅

Hope you enjoy the story and have a great week ahead! Thanks for all your votes and comments!

Filming for Crash Landing on You was finally going to start.

Both Ye-Jin and Hyun Bin had been anticipating this for the last month. This drama was special. Aside from the fact that it had materialized as if it was fated for them, they had genuinely fallen in love with their characters.

They spent the last couple of months working with Writer Park to add their ideas to the scripts. While their inputs did not alter the drama's plots, it added depth and personality to their characters.

It was not widely known but some of the scenes were inspired by Hyun Bin and Ye-Jin's personal experience. For example, the scene where Jeong-hyeok made guksu for Se-ri when she first arrive at his house was Ye-Jin's input to bring out Jeong-hyeok's gentle and kind nature. This was how she felt when Hyun Bin made her Naengguk for dinner at his house. Another example was when Jeong-hyeok first saw Gu Seung-Joon and Se-ri at Pyongyang Hotel. Jeong-hyeok's entertaining jealous outburst about destiny versus coincidence was contributed by Hyun Bin. He was inspired by his own outburst in front of his team when Ye-Jin and Jung Hae In's rumors first came out. Ye-Jin's real-life love for coffee resulted in the scene where Jeong-hyeok prepared coffee from raw beans for her. There were many other instances throughout the drama.

The fact that some of the scenes originated from their real life experience was probably one of the reason why they were so convincing on screen. Parts of Ri Jeong-hyeok and Yoon Se-ri were really extensions of Hyun Bin and Son Ye-Jin.

They were both thankful for the opportunity to incorporate themselves into the script and determined to do their best.

Script Reading

The script reading took place on 31st July.

Hyun Bin and Ye-Jin arrived separately that day. They had agreed that they would act naturally and professionally when at work. They would be filming for about seven months, which was a long time. It would be tiring for them and awkward for their co-workers if they were stiff around each other. Being their natural self was the best. They were both easy-going and respectful, it shouldn't be difficult to get along with everyone.

The atmosphere at the script reading was jovial and energetic. The cast was made up of a wide range of actors and actresses. There were senior actors like Oh Man Seok sonbaenim, who played the villain and Kim Jung Nan sonbaenim who play the head of the North Korean village women. There were also many talented junior actors like Yoo Subin, Lee Shin Yong and Tang Jong Sang who formed the younger trio of Jeong-hyeok's army men. There was also Kim Jung Hyun and Seo Ji-Hye, who were the second leads. It was a varied and talented cast.

Director Lee Jung-Hyo was an experienced Director with many successful dramas. He was a very friendly and humorous person. In this introduction, he emphasized his wish that everyone would enjoy the filming experience and have create good memories. Ye-Jin found herself smiling as he spoke, that was a very thoughtful and sincere message.

After introductions, they started the script reading proper. Hyun Bin and Ye-Jin being the leads, started the reading. It was the scene when they first met in the demilitarized zone. It was a light hearted scene which should have been "normal". It was not. Even the simple banter, when read by our two leads, brought a smile to everyone's face. They charmingly brought out the cuteness of the scene, and everyone in the room hung onto what would be said next. It wasn't so much the lines but how they said it. Writer Park and Director Lee were beaming. This was the chemistry they were looking for. Hyun Bin and Ye-Jin were so natural together that anything they said felt real and entertaining. They think they have a winner. They now have to ensure they provide a solid script and filming to do this chemistry justice.
