Landing, I sighed quietly, a commotion coming from the kitchen as loud laughter met my ears and I went to take my trunk from Nathan as he moved it away from me and I looked at him as he shook his head

"I'll take it. Come on, I'm needing to talk to you anyway" following him up the stairs silently, I walked with him along the landing until we got to my room as noise continued to flow upstairs as I shut the door behind us and my trunk was set down at the foot of my bed

"What's up?"

"Nothing. Thanks for bringing my trunk up"

"Something's up"

"No"

"You're horrible at lying to me" he told me, a small grin on his face as I smiled slightly, going and sitting down on my bed with a slight sigh as he sat down next to me

"Why the fuck did she leave without me? I mean, I know we aren't talking to each other but come on. Leaving me on the platform by myself?"

"At least I came along and got you"

"I know, thank you for that. How did you know she didn't get me?"

"I didn't. I was going to come along anyway. Is this what's bothering you?"

"I suppose, but it's not exactly bothering me" I shrugged as I glanced at him, smiling slightly while he started shuffling over and I leant my head against him

"Anything else?"

"I'm tired. I am so so fucking tired Nathan"

"I'm not surprised. Not in the slightest. You've been doing too much and have been through too much this year. You should've owled me"

"Should've"

"Well.... think of it this way: If the roots are rotting, how can the tree bear fruit?"

"Oh how poetic" I murmured back, laughing slightly as my hand was picked up and he looked at my scratched and slightly bruised knuckles

"What happened?"

"Nothing"

"Did you hit something stupid?"

"No, I didn't hit Oscar. And Holly is far past the point of being stupid"

"Amelia...." he sighed quietly as I looked at him with a smile, the door opening as I turned my head, my smile starting to slowly drop as I looked at Sirius who stood there, staring at me silently for a few moments before turning and looking to Nathan as an unreadable look grew on his face

"Who're you?"

"Excuse me?"

"Manners?" I asked after Nathan as I stared at Sirius, raising my eyebrows with an unimpressed look as he looked back to me

"Who is he?"

"What the actual fuck?-"

"I'm Nathan, captain of the Magpie team" he told Sirius as he looked back to him and the two stared at each other and I glanced to Sirius, noticing how thin he was as I watched him glance between us

"No"

"You what?"

"I said no"

"To what?"

"To you spending time with him-"

"You fucking what?! You've been gone twelve years and now you come back and think that you can boss me about and around in an instant?! Not happening Sirius! Get a grip of yourself!" I shouted at him as I sat up straight, staring at him with my chest heaving, already feeling myself grow cold as my fingertips started to turn white quickly while we stared at each other

"Don't you dare talk to me like that-"

"Well don't try and fucking control who I see and talk to then. Nathan has been in my life far longer than you fucking have and has helped me with a lot of shit that you wouldn't fucking care about so just fucking back off" I shot at him, pressing my lips together as he gritted his teeth before stepping back and slamming my bedroom door shut, a picture falling off the wall as I sighed quietly and went over to pick it up as I put it back up before turning to look at Nathan

"Can I stay at yours this summer? I don't want to be here. I really don't want to be here"

"You can if you want, I'm not stopping you. I'd love to have you there, you're always welcome and you know that. Do you know what that was all about though?"

"Did you not see him looking around?"

"No" he murmured quietly, sounding more like he was questioning himself as I pointed to specific things around the room, the green walls, the Slytherin banners and scarf that I had left on the foot of my bed as he let out a quiet sigh, almost sounding defeated

"It's not because-"

"It is"

"Amelia, no-"

"Nathan. He spent his childhood and teenage years determined to not turn out like the rest of the Black family, 99% of whom he hated with a passion. And now he comes back and finds out that his eldest daughter is in Slytherin and is happy about it? It's obvious he's going to hate me"

"He doesn't hate you"

"You sure about that? Because I haven't been in here for even twenty minutes and I'm already pretty positive he does"
