REMUS CLOSED THE DOORS OF THE wardrobe carefully and Athena couldn't help but stare at him. It was still so strange to see him again. Sometimes she'd forgotten he'd been real at all. A part of her tricked her mind into thinking she'd made the entire thing up because he was simply too good to be true.

Once he'd closed the doors, Remus stood motionless for a moment with his head hung low. Athena could see the trailing scars of silver up the back of his neck, swirling like magic to the base of his hairline.

Athena held the empty mug of coffee in her hands and wished that she had left with Severus. Wished that someone else would walk in right now.

She could have cut the tension in the room with a knife. Every sound was amplified by the suffocating silence around them. Every breath, every small shuffle to convey the uncomfortable feeling that had taken over the both of them.

Athena could see two birds out of the window of the staff room. Flying together in circles and sings of delight. These small creatures made everything look so easy. A picture of uncaring joy and the opposite was taking place through the thin sheet of glass.

She wanted Remus to leave but she also wondered what would happen if he stayed. Would she yell again or would they actually talk?

Athena wanted to hear his voice. That tone which had become a sense of comfort to her. She wanted to tell him all her problems while he sat close to her but this was all too late. Maybe twelve years ago but certainly not now.

"He looks like James"

Athena looked up in surprise. Woken from her thoughts collecting in the bottom of her coffee cup. Remus was looking at her now. His skin looked golden in the sunlight. Although at the other side of the room, Athena swore that she could see every detail on his face.

"He's just like James" Athena replied gently, "more than just looks, the way he plays quidditch, the way he gets into trouble all the time"

Remus smiled lightly and suddenly it got a lot warmer. There was a sparkle in his eyes that Athena hadn't seen in years. It had come alive while he was teaching, the way he'd stared at the students in pride. The way he'd inspired them so much without even realising.

"That was a good lesson" Athena stated simply and feared that she may have said the wrong thing.

Remus turned to her again and his smile returned. Athena cursed herself for enjoying seeing him look at least mildly happy.

"Thank you" Remus replied, "I'm glad you stayed"

Stayed

Athena's pleasant attitude dropped like a stone into a well and suddenly she didn't feel much like talking anymore. As the sun delved behind a cloud she placed her mug down onto the table and got to her feet.
