stay
/steɪ/
verb
remain in the same place

"If you had asked me to stay, I would've."

Y/N - your name

"Hey little bro, you ready to go to the beach?" I ask my little brother, Will, as he nods his head, "Duh!" He exclaims as he grabs onto his towel tightly. "Lets get going then." I say as I grab my car keys and grab my bag before we walk to the front door. "We leaving, Ma. Love you!" I shout as Will walks out the door and to my car. "Love you too. Look after your brother properly please." She says as I chuckle, "Of course." I say as I walk out the door and close it behind me.

I get into the car and start the short journey to the beach. Despite us living only a few kilometers away from the beach, we never go to the local beach. It wasn't appealing to my mother and simply, I never had time. Will will constantly ask us, but we never took him. But since I'm on holiday and it's a scorching hot day, I decide to be the amazing sister I am and take my brother to the beach. It also would give him a chance to meet new people as he recently moved here with myself and my mom after my dad lost custody just like he did with me.

"Ready kiddo?" I ask as I park. He nods his head as he jumps out the car. We make our way down to the busy beach before laying down our towels. He is about to run off to the sea but I stop him, "Excuse me, mister. What did you forget?" I tease him which makes him groan, "Sunblock." He mumbles as I nod. I throw him the sunblock as he puts it on his stomach, face and legs. He then throws me the sunblock and turns his back to me so I can put it on his back.

Once I'm done, he dashes to the sea which make me giggle, happy to see my brother happy again. My mother and father ended in bad terms, meaning that here was a massive custody battle. My mother won me pretty easily, but not my brother so much. After much fighting and many years apart from my brother, we got him to move from Ireland to New Zealand to be with myself and my mom.

It's been hard on the 11 year old. New country, new friends, new schools, etc, but I made sure I helped him as much as I could. Sure, university got in the way, but I always made sure I spent time with him. During these times, it was hard for me, very hard, but I always found comfort in my ex boyfriend, Marcus. We broke up a few months ago, just before my brother came here.

He was the one, I knew he was and I still know, but his traveling and my stressed state never mixed well. I was always accusing him of doing me wrong somehow, either cheating on me or plainly ignoring me, and I knew it wasn't right on him. He broke up with me, rightly so, but I didn't bother fighting knowing he'd be better off without me anyway. I miss him dearly, missing the comfort he gave me and missing the bond he had with my brother as they would always Skype. His brother and my brother were also close, videoing constantly, but when we broke up, Will refused to speak to them as he believed that was the right thing to do.

I obviously told him it wasn't, but he didn't care as all he wanted to do was comfort me during my tough times. I place some sunblock on me before sitting back and enjoying the hot sun. I keep an eye on Will, but not constantly as I knew he was a big boy and didn't want me spying on him in case he met a nice girl.

I'm relaxing until I feel someone hug me. I open my eyes to see Marcus's brother, Harry (A/N : I don't think that's his name but I'm too lazy to search rn). "Harry? It's been forever." I say as I hug the wet boy. "We miss you so much." He says making me chuckle. "Sorry for bringing Harry, y/n. I just saw him with Marcus and just wanted to hangout with them a bit." Will says softly so that Harry couldn't here but I just smile, "Don't be sorry. It's okay to be friends with him. Now go and chill with him." I say as he smiles widely.

They both rush back to the sea which makes me smiles, but my smile soon disappears as I realize what Will said. "Shit, Marcus is here." I say to myself as I look around. I couldn't see him because of how busy it was, but I doubt he would come searching for me. I mean, why would he? We broke up, end of story.

I lay back down but only for a few minutes until someone clearing their throat catches my attention. I open my eyes to see the one and only, Marcus Armstrong, before me. "Hi." He says with a smile. "Hey." I say back awkwardly as he sighs, "Long time no see. How have you been?" He asks as I sigh, "Marcus, why are you speaking to me? You broke up with me for a reason." I say as he folds his arms.

"You know, if you had asked me to stay, I would've." He says which catches me completely off guard. "But you didn't, so I left." He continues as he frown, "That's not an excuse. You left, end of story." I say but he shakes his head, "I left because I knew you weren't happy. I couldn't stand the constant "you're cheating on me" and "why are you ignoring me?" I thought you were doing that because you wanted to end things because of the distance." He says as I look at him, confusion written all over my face.

"Marcus, I said all of that because I was stressed and I missed you. You knew that." I say but all he does is laugh, "I thought your stress made you want to leave me. I thought me leaving would give you the space to think clearly." He says as I can't help but smile, "You're an idiot, you know that?" I say as he chuckles, "Callum has told me so before." He says as we share a laugh.

"You leaving was the worst thing that has ever happened to me." I state after a moment of silence. "I'm sorry. I should've just spoken to you." He says as I stand up. "Would you like to try again? This time, we actually communicate with each other." I ask as he smiles, "That sounds great." He says before leaning down and pressing his lips to mine. "Man, I've missed your kisses." He says once we've pulled away which makes me laugh, "I can safely say I've missed them too." I say before pressing my lips to his once again.
