Bridgerton One Shot

For the past month, you had been courting Prince Friedrich and it was the happiest time of your life, if not at least slightly daunting. You couldn't help but feel unworthy of him as he was a prince that could have any woman, he wished but for some reason her had picked you. You tried your best to ignore those thoughts as you were very happy courting him, but they only seemed to bubble up more.

He had invited you to take a walk through the gardens of the palace at which he was staying with his aunt, the queen. You happily agreed and spent the morning linked arms with him walking through the beautiful gardens, your escort walking not far behind.

"Miss Y/S/N, I did have an ulterior motive to request you walk with me today," he said softly as you stopped by one of the many fountains.

You raised an eyebrow at him, not sure what he meant by that but kept quiet until he continued what he was saying.

"I have very much enjoyed our time together over the last month, and I have never been more certain of anything in my life. You make me feel like the luckiest man alive and I could not imagine my life with anyone else by my side. Although it is not my priority, I did not imagine I would find a woman that I loved so dearly that my aunt would also like enough to agree to me asking such an important question," he smiled, lowering himself down onto his knee, pulling out a beautiful sparkling ring. "Miss Y/N Y/S/N, will you do me the honour in becoming my wife?"

It felt as though your heart stopped in your chest. You had fallen completely in love with Friedrich, and you couldn't have been happier with the idea of marrying him, but you couldn't help but feel terrible in the fact that he could have been with someone far better than you. Your silence didn't go unnoticed, especially not when tears begun to brim in your eyes.

His smile fell as he stood up to cup your cheeks in his hand. "What is wrong?"

"I do not understand why you would want to be with me. You are a prince, I am no one."

Friedrich's thumb rubbed over your cheek as he offered you a gentle, loving smile. "Since I first laid my eyes on you, I knew you were my princess. You may not have a title now but one day you will be the Queen of Prussia."

You couldn't help the tears escape your eyes, but not because of your sorrow, instead the joy that was filling you.

"Are you sure you want to marry me?" You asked.

He nodded his head. "I couldn't imagine marrying anyone else.

"Then, yes... yes, I want to marry you."

Friedrich slid the ring onto your finger before kissing just above the ring, both of you taking in the pure joy that came in the moment.
